To the European Court of Human Rights,To the UN Human Rights Council,To the PACE Appeal:On February 14, 2020, the Baku Court on Grave Crimes sentenced Talysh scholar, journalist and politician Fakhraddin Abbasov (Aboszoda) to 16 years in prison. This case began with his illegal extradition to Azerbaijan by Russia on February 27, 2018. Even the Moscow Regional Court recognized the illegality of this decision on April 29, 2019. In 2011, Russia granted him temporary asylum, and in 2014 he received a residence permit and applied for citizenship of the Russian Federation.
After the extradition F. Abbasov (Aboszoda) was detained for 38 days in Baku without a Court order. On day 38, he was given a decision by the Sabail District Court of Baku dated July 14, 2018 about his 4-month arrest. Based on this decision, he had already been detained in Russia for 6 months, so his detention in Baku was illegal. He lodged an appeal, for the consideration of which no one was admitted. None of the Court documents was made public. |
